We Built This Because Numbers Shouldn't Be Complicated

Most people have no clear idea what they're actually worth. And honestly, that's a problem we've watched play out in too many conversations.

Back in 2021, a small group of us sat in a coffee shop in Kitchener talking about how difficult it was to get a straight answer about personal finances. Not investment advice. Not tax strategies. Just a simple, honest snapshot of where you stand right now. That conversation turned into miovanovasevea.

The Lightbulb Moment Was Actually Pretty Ordinary

A friend asked me how much his house, savings, and retirement accounts added up to minus his debts. Seems basic, right? But when he tried using online tools, half wanted to sell him something, and the other half required so much information he gave up.

We realized there wasn't a straightforward tool that respected people's time and gave them clarity without the sales pitch. So we made one. miovanovasevea started as a side project, then became something people kept asking about. By mid-2023, we'd helped over 2,000 Canadians figure out their actual net worth.

The thing that surprised us most? People weren't looking for complex financial planning. They just wanted to see their number and understand what it meant. Sometimes simplicity is exactly what's needed.

How We Actually Help People See Their Financial Picture

Our approach isn't revolutionary. We ask straightforward questions, calculate totals accurately, and present results in plain language. But that clarity makes a real difference when you're trying to make decisions about your future.

No Hidden Agendas

We don't sell insurance products or investment portfolios. You get your net worth calculation without being pushed toward other services. That's it. That's the whole model, and it keeps things refreshingly straightforward.

Privacy Matters Here

Your financial details stay with you. We calculate totals based on what you enter, but we're not storing sensitive account numbers or asking for access to your banking. You control what information you share and when.

Context That Makes Sense

Getting a number is one thing. Understanding what it means for someone in your age group, location, and situation is another. We provide comparison data from Canadian households so your net worth has relevant context.

Built For Real Situations

Whether you're considering a major purchase, planning retirement, or just curious where you stand financially, our tool adapts to different scenarios. We've tested it with students, young families, and pre-retirees across Ontario and beyond.

Henrik Veldkamp

Lead Financial Analyst

Henrik joined us in early 2024 after spending seven years at a mid-sized accounting firm in Toronto. He got tired of seeing clients confused by their own financial statements, so when he heard about what we were building, he reached out.

He's the one who redesigned our calculation methodology to account for regional housing market variations across Canada. Before that, our tool treated a Vancouver homeowner the same as someone in rural Saskatchewan, which didn't make much sense.

Outside work, Henrik volunteers with a local financial literacy program and has an oddly specific interest in mid-century Canadian banking history. He's also convinced that spreadsheets are underrated as an art form, which tells you something about his personality.

Where We're Headed From Here

We're not trying to become a massive financial platform. The goal is to stay focused on net worth calculation and keep improving how we present that information to Canadians who need it.

In late 2025, we're rolling out enhanced tools for tracking changes over time. Because knowing your net worth once is helpful, but seeing how it shifts month-to-month or year-to-year? That's when the real insights start showing up.

We're also expanding our comparison datasets to include more specific demographic segments. Right now we compare by age and region. Soon you'll be able to see how your situation compares to others with similar career paths or family structures.

The team is still small. We're based in Kitchener, and most days we're answering support emails, refining calculations, or testing new features with real users. It's not glamorous, but it's honest work that actually helps people understand their finances better. And that's enough reason to keep going.
